OUYA launch date delayed until June 25th
Sadly the OUYA release date has been pushed back from the planned release date, June 4th, to June 25th. Its been reported that the Android mini console has received a higher retail demand than expected so the release date had to be pushed back.
Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman told Joystiq:
“We’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks – three weeks – which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June.”
Another issue that had to be addressed was that one of the controller’s buttons was able to get stuck underneath its removable faceplate. The problem has already been fixed though and implemented into the production. The solution was to simply create larger button holes so the buttons could no longer get stuck. The changes were also said to have been made early on in the production phase so that all the units are produced with the larger holes and all retail units that ship will be coupled with the corrected controllers.
Regarding Kick-starter backers who have already received their console, Ouya also stated:
“If backers have a problem with their controller, we will work with them to resolve the issue via customer service.”
Lets hope the delay on the OUYA launch date doesn’t put anyone off, and instead just build more hype for the console. We are incredibly excited to see what this little box can bring to the gaming world.
